Kayaking for a Cause

breast cancer paddle   This month, October, marks my one year anniversary when I had the mastectomy….it is also ironically, breast cancer awareness month.

In honor of my journey, and women who have gone through similar journeys, those we have lost, and all we honor, I led the first Paddle Breast Cancer kayak trip in Charleston.  I had hoped for 6 people…. I got 30!  They brought kayaks and rented kayaks, and donated generously to the organization of my choice, breast cancer action.

It was a magnificent day… the average temp in Charleston this time of year is about 79, we had bright sun and air temp of 88 with water temp of 80!   We took a moment to honor those we paddled for and then jumped out of our kayaks to enjoy the warm temps!

To my surprise (besides the vast number of old friends and new), Channel 2 News interviewed me and the owner of Sea Kayak Carolina who co-sponsored the event.  Thanks to their support and involvement, it was a huge success.

We hope to hold the 2nd annual next October… and maybe, there won’t need to be a 3rd.

Next year, I want to see if we can run concurrent geographic locations of this event…how cool would that be?!

So to all that have attended and will attend, my heartfelt appreciation for your genorousity, kindness and participation in our first event.  I am so thrilled to still be here to see this happen!
